Why do we address mental health?

Mental Health in Green County Youth: A Call to Action

According to the 2023 Green County Youth Risk Behavior Survey, 54% of high school students and 58% of middle school students reported mental health struggles —including self-harm, depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, and suicide attempts.

Like bullying, untreated mental health issues can increase the risk of drug misuse, as some youth turn to substances as a form of self-medication—making the problem worse.

This data shows that more than half of Green County youth are struggling, and these issues can deeply affect their daily life, school performance, and overall well-being.

While the numbers are concerning, they also highlight an important opportunity: early intervention can make a difference. By addressing mental health needs early, we can help prevent long-term challenges and create safer, more supportive communities.

Green County Prevention Partnership provides training for both professionals and the public on how to recognize signs of crisis and offer effective support.

Mental Health is Health

Stress is often viewed as negative, but in moderation, it can be beneficial. It can improve focus, increase motivation, and encourage creative problem-solving.

However, when stress becomes long-term or overwhelming, it can impact your health and well-being. The good news is there are effective, research-backed ways to manage stress in a healthy way—such as meditative breathing. Try it using the link below:

Each survivor of suicide loss grieves in their own way and on their own timeline. Connecting with others who have lost a loved one to suicide and hearing how they have navigated the pain of that loss is a fundamental step toward hope and healing.

The other three boys are sitting in their chairs, looking somewhat distracted. The boy in a plaid shirt and black pants is facing slightly towards the girl, while the others sit relaxed with their hands in their laps. Backpacks are resting on the floor beside them.
